What the difference between a transmission rebuild and a repair?
A repair is usually a temporary fix that can help malfunctioning transmissions. Transmissions that are repaired rather than rebuilt may require significant service or replacement shortly after repair.
In contrast, a rebuild consists of a complete disassembly of a transmission and full inspection of parts. When rebuilding a transmission, we install a complete rebuild kit with new parts and torque converter. We recommend a rebuild for maximum reliability and performance.
How much should I pay for a transmission?
Always, always, always ask your transmission service provider for an estimate with a minimum and maximum amount before disassembly or repairs are started.
For most domestic vehicles, the price should be somewhere in the $2,400-$3,000 range. For foreign vehicles, expect to pay around $3,000-$3,400. Prices vary depending on the year, make, and model of a vehicle.
At Quality Transmission Service, we will always provide you with a free estimate so you can make an informed decision.
What can a high-performance rebuild do for my vehicle?
A high-performance rebuild can increase durability and increase your vehicle's towing capacity.
What kind of warranty should I expect on my transmission service?
You should always ask about your warranty when having transmission service done on your vehicle. Our 2-year or 24,000 mile warranty on all transmission services is among the best in our industry.
How can I increase the lifespan of my transmission?
You can help increase the lifespan of your transmission by:
- Keeping your transmission cool (ask your transmission service provided about installation of an axillary cooler)
- Service your transmission once per year (you should expect to pay around $150-$200 for annual transmission service)
- Having the drivetrain inspected for leaks (this should be part of your annual transmission inspection)
